South Stafford College is committed to ensuring our website and digital learning platforms are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We believe that education should be genuinely inclusive, and that begins with removing barriers to accessing information online.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard across our website and student platforms. This statement applies to the South Stafford College website (southstafford.co.uk) and the SSC Learning Management System (LMS).
We are actively working towards full compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Our website currently includes the following accessibility features:
- Semantic HTML structure for compatibility with screen readers
- Text alternatives (alt text) provided for all meaningful images
- Colour contrast ratios meeting WCAG AA standards throughout the site
- Keyboard navigation support for all interactive elements
- Resizable text — the site layout responds correctly when text is enlarged up to 200%
- Clear and consistent page structure with descriptive headings and link text
- Forms include properly associated labels for all input fields
- Focus indicators are visible for keyboard users on all interactive elements
- Videos hosted on external platforms include captioning where available
- PDF documents are being progressively updated to include accessibility tags
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas of our website may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Known limitations include:
- Some older PDF documents (pre-2024) may not be fully accessible to screen readers — we are working to remediate these progressively
- Certain third-party embedded content (e.g. forms from external providers) may not fully meet our accessibility standards — we are working with vendors to address this
- Some complex data tables may not render optimally in all assistive technologies
We are committed to addressing these issues as part of our ongoing accessibility improvement programme.
The SSC website relies on HTML5, ARIA landmarks, CSS3, and JavaScript for WCAG 2.1 conformance. All core functionality is available without JavaScript where possible. The website has been tested with: NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android), keyboard-only navigation, and Windows High Contrast mode.
- Increase text size — use Ctrl + (Windows) or Cmd + (Mac) to zoom in on any page
- Screen reader — the website supports NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack
- High contrast mode — enable High Contrast in your Windows or macOS accessibility settings
- Keyboard navigation — all navigation and interactive elements are accessible via Tab
- Captions — where video content is available, enable captions through your video player
Our Learning Management System is selected and configured with accessibility in mind. Students who require specific accessibility adjustments for their studies — such as extended assessment deadlines, alternative format materials, or assistive technology support — are encouraged to contact our Student Support team as early as possible so we can make appropriate arrangements.
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website and platforms. If you experience a barrier or find a page that does not meet accessibility standards, please contact us:
